CUCUMBER CHUTNEY/DOSAKAYA PACHCHADI/SOUTHEKAYI CHUTNEY

Think of chutney all we remember is coconut chutney, mint chutney, tomato chutney etc. An equally delectable chutney can be prepared with cucumber - simple, light, flavorful and the adjectives grow. make this simple chutney and pair the same with chapathi, spread it on bread, enjoy it with steamed rice /curd rice and tell me how it tastes.

Ingredients
  • Cucumber - 1 small
  • Grated coconut - 3 table spoons
  • Green chillies - 3 -4
  • Coriander - 1 sprig
  • Fenugreek - 1/2 spoon
  • Asafoetida - 2 pinches
  • Lemon - 1 half
  • Channa dal- 1 spoon
  • Oil - 1 spoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 spoon
  • Curry leaves - 1 sprig
  • Salt - 1/2 spoon /to taste
Method

  • Wash ,peal, and cut cucumber and keep aside.
  • Grate coconut and keep aside
  • In a wok/kadai fry fenugreek, channa dal, hing, with 1/2 spoon oil till golden add chillies and coriander fry for 1/2 min and keep aside.
  • Prepare seasoning - add mustard seeds to 1/2 spoon oil heated in the wok, let it splutter, add curry leaves and close the flame.
  • Grind all fried ingredients with salt and coconut. Add cucumber pieces and grind taking care to see that cucumber is not mashed up.
  • Add seasoning Chutney is ready to serve.

Tips
  • Do not add water while grinding chutney
  • Consume within 2 - 3 hrs.
