ERULLI CHUTNEY/ONION CHUTNEY/VENGAYAM CHUTNEY/


Morning rush, time crunch no time to prepare elaborate chutney, you have dosa batter but not enough grated coconut to make chutney, want to reduce coconut intake many issues single solution - onion chutney - goes well with dosa, idli, rotti, bread , chapathi and even steamed/plain rice.

Ingredients


  • Onion - 3 medium sized
  • Grated coconut - 1 cup
  • Green chilies - 3 -4
  • Coriander - 5 - 6 sprigs
  • Tamarind - size of a marble
  • Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
  • Salt to taste
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 spoon
  • Oil - 1 spoon
Method
  • Peel and chop onions as shown
  • Heat oil in a wok add mustard let it crackle
  • Add curry leaves and fry till crisp , keep aside (seasoning)
  • In the same wok fry onions till translucent, add green chillies and coriander fry for a minute
  • Cool fried ingredients and grind with salt, coconut and tamarind
  • Add seasoning, mix well and serve
Notes
Since onions are fried breath will not be bad
Substitute tamarind with lemon juice as per taste
