Avalakki/poha/atukulu is available in various forms and textures and used throughout India - for savory snacks, with curd on vruth days, as chivda, for making vathal, etc. Avalakki is also a very easy and quick option for breakfast. Here is humble avalakki for breakfast.




Method
- Ease - very easy
- Preparation time - 15 min
- Cooking time - 10 minutes
- Serves - 4
- Avalakki/poha/beaten rice (thicker variety) - 2 cups
- Onions - 2 big
- Green Chillies - 4
- Coriander - 4 sprigs
- Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
- Peanuts - Handful
- Oil - 2 spoons for seasoning
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 spoon
- Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
- Salt - 1 spoon ( to taste)




Method
- Soak avalakki in water - keep aside (soak for at least 10 min)
- Chop coriander, chillies, cut onions and keep aside
- Roast peanuts, crush in a pestle mortar and keep aside
- Heat oil in a wok/kadai add mustard seeds let it splutter, add curry leaves and onions, fry till translucent, add chillies and coriander and saute for a minute
- Drain water completely from soaked avalakki
- Add avalakki to the wok, add salt and mix well.
- Garnish with coconut and crushed peanut
- Kanda poha is ready to be serve
- Use thicker variety of avalakki /poha
- Red rice poha/organic poha are available in the market
- You can add 1/2 spoon garam masala to make it spicy and aromatic
- Add 1.2 spoon chat masala, sev and some ketchup to make it chatpaty snack in the evenings
