Tur dal chutney is prepared as a quick fix dish for lunch. This chutney goes well with plain rice. Tur dal is fried with spices and ground with coconut. Since dal is not cooked, it is a time saver. (Tur dal is major source of proteins and is used in daily cooking in south India).

- Time - 15 min

- Tur dal - 3/4 cup
- Coconut - 1 cup
- Byadagi chilly - 4 -5
- Hing - few grains
- Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
- Tamarind - small goose berry size
- oil -for seasoning
- salt to taste

- Soak tamarind with little water
- In a wok, dry roast dal, hing, chillies and curry leaves till dal is golden,chillies and curry leaves are crisp.
- Grind coarsely roasted stuff, salt, tamarind and coconut adding little water
- Add seasoning
- Seasoning - heat oil and add mustard seeds and let it splutter
