TOGARIBELE CHUTNEY/TUR DAL CHUTNEY/PARAPPU CHUTNEY


Tur dal chutney is prepared as a quick fix dish for lunch. This chutney goes well with plain rice. Tur dal is fried with spices and ground with coconut. Since dal is not cooked, it is a time saver. (Tur dal is major source of proteins and is used in daily cooking in south India).

 Ingredients
 
  • Tur dal - 3/4 cup
  • Coconut - 1 cup
  • Byadagi chilly - 4 -5
  • Hing - few grains
  • Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
  • Tamarind - small goose berry size
  • oil -for seasoning
  • salt to taste
Method



  • Soak tamarind with little water
  • In a wok, dry roast dal, hing, chillies and curry leaves till dal is golden,chillies and curry leaves are crisp.
  • Grind coarsely roasted stuff, salt, tamarind and coconut adding little water
  • Add seasoning
  • Seasoning - heat oil and add mustard seeds and let it splutter
