Uppittu (kannada) with aliases upma (tamil), uppindi(telugu), kharabath (Darshini jargon) could be a good breakfast dish with a good balance of complex carbs, vegetables and health boosting spices. A well prepared upma had with chutney+ ghee or raitha will transport you to another world.

- Rava (sooji)- 1 cup
- Water- 1 1/2 cups
- Mustard seeds -1 tsp
- Urad dal - 1 tsp
- Chana dal - 1 tsp
- Cashew - 5-6 (optional)
- Coriander powder - 11/2 tsp
- Chilli powder - 1 tsp
- Fenugreek powder - 1/2 spoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 spoon
- Cinnamon Powder - 1/4 spoon
- Salt to taste
- Hing/asefotida powder - a pinch
- Onion - 1 medium sized
- Tomato -1 medium sized
- Capsicum - i medium size
- Fresh peas - 1 cup
- Grated coconut - 1/4 cup (optional)
- Few curry leaves
- Chopped coriander
- 2-3 tbs Oil


Method
- Cut/cube/chop vegetables
- Keep all the ingedients and masala powders ready as shown
- Roast the rava.under medium flame in a kadai (wok)till you get aroma
- In a thick bottomed kadai (wok) heat oil put mustard seed and let it splutter
- Add urad dal, chana dal and fry till golden, add cashew, and curry leaves
- Add chopped onions and fry 2 minutes
- Sprinkle coriander powder, chilli powder, hing, cinnamon powder and turmeric powder then mix well and fry for 1/2 min
- Add cubed capsicums (bell pepper) tomatos then fry for some time 1/2 min
- Add peas and tomatoes and saute for 1 min
- Pour water, let it boil and all the veggies soften, add grated coconut (optional)
- add salt to taste
- After mixture comes to boil pour rava slowly into the mixture and mix well
- Stir constantly to avoid lumps.
- Cover and let rava cook for 1 minute
- Garnish with chopped coriander.
