KARIBEVU CHUTNEY PUDI /KADI PATTA CHUTNEY POWDER/ KARIVEPELAI CHUTNEY PODI/KARIVEPAAKU CHUTNEY PODI

Chutney pudi is a taste bud stimulating taste packed powder made with spices, roasted lentils. desiccated coconut etc. Curry leaves chutney powder can be had as an accompaniment with rotti, dosa, curd rice, chapathi or simply with puffing hot steamed rice with a dash of ghee. Spread it on bread with butter it tastes yummy. This powder is given to new mothers for its digestive and medicinal properties.

  • Preparation time - 30 minutes
  • Quantity - makes about 200 gms.

Ingredients



  • Curry leaves - 4 cups
  • Tur dal - 1/2 cup
  • Grated desiccated coconut - 2 cups
  • Pepper corns - 1 table spoon
  • Byadagi chillies - 7 - 8
  • tamarind powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Asafoetida - 3 peanut sized granules
  • salt to taste
  • Ghee/oil to fry
Method
  • Separate curry leaves, wash, towel dry
  • Roast tur dal till golden, pepper and asafoetida, followed by chilli till aroma wafts, keep aside
  • Add little oil, ghee to the kadai and roast curry leaves till crisp and a very distinct aroma wafts
  • Cool all the roasted ingredients, add salt, tamarind powder, coconut and powder using a mixer/grinder/
  • Store in a dry air tight container
